Olympic runners: they don't get fast by lounging on the couch watching sports on TV. No, they go out and practice. Believers running life's race need to know that their effectiveness is determined by the disciplines of the Christian life, practiced every day, every week, every month, every year. Today, we begin a series that outlines four disciplines crucial to your spiritual maturity.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. If you ask most Christians, "Do you want to be like Jesus?" they'd probably say "of course." Until they find out what it really means. Jesus renounced His privileges and humbled Himself to the point of permitting His own death. Unless we do the same, we will never reach the lost floating on a sea of moral relativity. Today: more about what it means to take the cross into the world.

There's a basic problem in evangelism: the world thinks the cross we preach about is foolish, but to us, it's the power of God. As we run the race of life as believers in Christ, how do we bring the message of the cross to a rejecting world? Today, on the advent of the election: some answers on how to have a real impact on those around us.

Buried deep in the purposes of God lies the answer to this question: why did the Father send His Son to the cross? As we run life's daily race, let's not forget that mercy is getting what you don't deserve. God was not obligated to save any of us, and yet He has. Today, we begin an awesome look at how far God went to provide redemption for a lost mankind.

Many people believe Jesus was a great teacher and a good example. But few really understand why He died on a cruel cross. These days, polling data is king. In the mainstream media, the truth seems to lie with the majority opinion. And so we're analyzing what people believe about the cross of Christ: the only means of eternal salvation. For some crucial insights, stay with us.

To many people the cross is a piece of jewelry, or what's atop a church steeple. Most people don't see it as it really is... the centerpiece of history and the core of God's redemptive agenda. In recent days on Running to Win we've been exploring God's view of the cross, but today we'll focus on man's viewpoint. As we'll soon see, the contrast is startling.
