Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. There are three myths about today’s media culture: it’s neutral, it doesn’t affect us, and we can control it. None of these are true. Billions are spent in advertising to affect what you do. You can’t even check the news online without being confronted with a provocative image. In today’s message, learn what you can do to counter the culture and guard your heart.

Abraham is put to the ultimate test: he’s to sacrifice his son. Though in many ways this is an analogy of Calvary, there is one way in which the analogy breaks down: there was no rescue for Jesus from the cross. God didn’t prevent the death of His beloved Son. Jesus went the whole way—for you and for me.

Have you ever really been put to the test by God—a test that proves that you will obey Him—no matter what the cost? In Genesis 22, Abraham is asked by God to sacrifice his son Isaac, the son of promise, the son through whose line the Redeemer was to come. Isaac was to die.

Lot’s covetousness cost him his family, his testimony, his character, and nearly cost him his life. In today’s message, Pastor Lutzer will help us learn from Lot’s mistakes so that we can live a more Christ-like life.

God had agreed to spare the city of Sodom if ten righteous were found in it. Abraham thought he had a sure deal—but then the smoke rose. On today’s Running to Win, Pastor Lutzer discusses how God will answer prayer in unexpected ways.

Abraham came out of his tent one day and saw three men standing there—but these were not ordinary men. In his keen spiritual insight, he sensed he was in the presence of the Lord. As Hebrews 13 says, some “have entertained angels without knowing it.”

The strife-torn Middle East has been a powder keg for millennia. Two groups claim ownership, but only one can be right. Genesis chapter 21 tells of the parting of the ways between the two sons of Abraham. Ishmael, father of the Arab nations, was cast out of the house along with his mother Hagar. God’s clear intention was for Isaac to carry on the line of inheritance.

When God changes your name, it’s always the mark of a new relationship with Him, out of which comes a new destiny. For 99 years he was known as Abram, then God changed his name to Abraham, the “father of many nations.” God institutes circumcision to mark the newly expanded covenant. Ishmael is a teenager and Isaac is not yet born. Join us as we stand at a crucial point in history.

Sarah’s idea to have Abraham father a promised heir through her maid backfired.  Anger and bitterness replaced the peace that once reigned in their home. Hagar runs away to escape the torment, only to find comfort from an unexpected place.  Find out more in this message by Pastor Lutzer.

Sometimes, we second-guess God. Knowing what His will is, we may try to engineer circumstances to bring it to pass, and that’s what Abraham did when God said he would have numberless offspring. Since his wife was past childbearing years, he took her advice and slept with their Egyptian maid Hagar.  The result produced consequences that are still with us today.
