“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. I have the keys of Death and of Hades.” The glorified Jesus spoke these words as revealed in the book of Revelation. Today – a celebration of the risen Christ.

At the Lord’s Supper, we take bread and wine and recall the broken body and shed blood of Jesus, given for us. In focusing on the price paid for our salvation, it brings to mind what that sacrifice means.

After Jonah preached, he got angry and depressed. God then sent a sequence of events to teach the wayward prophet some pointed object lessons. We will meet a plant, a worm and a scorching east wind.

Some of God’s servants have to go to the school of hard knocks before they learn to obey God from the heart. Jonah finally went to Ninevah with a hard heart; he had no real concern for the people of this great pagan city.

God wants His servants focused on His agenda, not their own. It has taken extraordinary measures to get Jonah back on the road to Ninevah, but now he is going, in body if not in heart

Ever been at the end of your rope? Jonah was, when he found himself in the belly of a fish. God has amazing ways of getting us to say yes. He arranges conditions so that we will choose to do His will.

When God wants to get the attention of one of His servants, He has many creative options. In the case of Jonah, God took extreme measures. The belly of a great fish is hardly the Holiday Inn, and here Jonah got the message.
April 9, 2014
Jonah was determined to avoid doing a distasteful job, preaching to a pagan city, that they might repent. He would rather go the opposite direction than tell the Ninevites that judgment could be averted.
April 8, 2014
God has many ways of getting us to say yes, even when we are digging in our heels. We are about to study the life of the prophet Jonah. We will see that God has a multitude of creative ways to make sure we change our minds.
