Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Certain laws are built into the fabric of the universe, such as gravity, the speed of light, and the principles of sowing and reaping. You can’t avoid gravity, and you can’t change the speed of light. Neither can you buck the system that says “you reap what you sow.” God uses this principle to teach His children not to sin. And sometimes, the lessons are hard.

Most of us are creatures of habit. It’s easy to fall back into old patterns of sin, even after we have sought God’s forgiveness. Often we get tripped up in the race of life by returning to the detours of past behavior. Some of us are quite sure there is no way to break out of the cycle of sin, forgiveness, restoration, and back to sin. But there is.

The Bible says that when God forgives our sins, He “remembers them no more.” How can this be, since God knows everything? After great spiritual failures we say with King David, “My sin is ever before me.” So how can it not be before God? The answer lies in the concept of “covering.” Today: hope for all who fear their sins on Earth will never be forgotten in heaven.

When we are faced with the long-term consequences of our sins, it can be hard to believe that God has really forgiven them. Many who struggle with guilt find it returning to haunt them even after they have sought forgiveness from God. We need to realize that God will help us deal with sin’s consequences once we reckon ourselves clean in His sight through Christ.

Many people carry a paralyzing burden of guilt for past sins. What’s worse, they see no way out of their predicaments. These people don’t run in the race of life, they plod through it at best. Beset by the crushing load of self-blame, they face each new day with yesterday’s emotional baggage. Today you will hear God’s way out of bearing guilt for the rest of your life.

When we sin greatly, many of us flee from God. Thinking there is no way we can ever get back into the Father’s good graces, we run on tough terrain, finding out that sin takes us where we really don’t want to go. When we get weary enough, some of us make the crucial choice to return to the Father — no matter what.

What do you do when your secret life is a secret no longer? Or when your well-managed cover story has been shattered? As we run the race of life, let’s not forget that every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Repairing the damage of sin means re-establishing contact with God, and rebuilding relationships with those we have hurt. There is a way to come home.

Tyranny: it sets in fast when a nation’s leaders stop acknowledging their accountability to a higher power. As the U.S. government increasingly decides which laws to enforce, we get laws that contravene not just the Constitution, but also, common sense. Today: why America is fast approaching the cliff of despotism with freedom extinguished by those in power.

Only a few people remember the horrors of Nazi Germany. History has a way of re-writing itself to hide bad memories. Germany in the 1930’s faced economic ruin. So may America. Germany listened to a man who promised a new era of national greatness. So may America. But Adolf Hitler started a World War. What happens if we, too, forget God?
