Running To Win

Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Oprah, Miracles, and the New Earth Pt. 1 #2 of 2

January 12, 2009
When people are dazzled by miracles, they'll believe almost anything. Modern-day miracle workers take quick advantage of that. You can even buy a book called A Course in Miracles. And since only God can perform a miracle, the next leap of modern faith is to realize that we, ourselves, are gods. Satan's great end-time Lie is in full bloom, on radio, TV, and across the internet.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. "Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" In a court of law, truth is important. The New Testament teaches that in the end times, truth will give way to a lie...not just any lie, but The Lie. What that lie is, and how it's found adherents among the powerful in our media, is our focus for the next five Running to Win programs.

Is God on America's side? We all thought so when the twin towers were destroyed. Off we went to fight the war on terror. Years later, the war is ongoing. The economy is teetering on the brink. Tough times lie ahead for America, and many feel we're experiencing God's righteous judgment. Today, Erwin Lutzer points the way forward for those who want to see America, again, be blessed by God.

The separation of Church and State is a premise not found in the Constitution or in the Declaration of Independence. It's referred to in the writings of Thomas Jefferson, and has been given a level of authority beyond that of the Bible itself. It is now a high wall, designed to keep God in a box while we as a nation do whatever we please. What is the inevitable outcome?

"Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man sows, that will he reap." That goes for nations, as well. The United States has known blessing from the hand of God that few nations in history have been given. But that blessing may be in short supply in the days ahead, as increasingly we've turned our backs on the God who gives blessings. To learn more, stay with us.

Soon we'll see a new administration in Washington. Enormous challenges face our new President and his staff. An economy in collapse, a war on two fronts and an increasing sense that the future may well be worse than the past.... At this crucial hour, perhaps one question rises above all others: "Is God on America's Side?" For one perspective, stay with us.

Is God's will elusive? Does He try to make it hard to find? As the new year dawns, what lies ahead in the plan of God? The best advice: take one step at a time. As we're learning, God's will is a series of small events that ultimately take us where He wants us to go. Today: light from the scriptures to make your path and mine into 2009 more clear.

It's blank parchment, a new year dawns with no written history. What happens in this new year is known only to God. That's why it makes a lot of sense to allow God to order our steps in the weeks and months ahead. In these uncertain times, it makes more sense than ever to let God call the shots in your life and mine. On today's broadcast, Erwin Lutzer will help us do just that.

If only we had eternal eyes, and could see the end from the beginning. The race of life we run would look far different. With eternal eyes we'd see all those things we could not change, but tried to change, and understand why God placed them in our lives. Yes, in eternity we'll have that understanding...but for now, we must rest in the wisdom of God.

In every Olympic race, someone must win. Someone must take home the gold medal, the supreme emblem of victory. In running life's race we sometimes labor under the illusion that we can control all the variables of life. But the real truth is this: there are some things that must happen. And when God says they must, they will. What are these things? To find out, stay with us.

Our eyes only see light in a narrow spectrum. Beyond blue is ultraviolet, beyond red is infrared. There is much we do not see, and as we run life's race, it's good to get a new perspective. Getting a fresh view of how God sees things can help us run and not be weary, despite the afflictions we suffer. God's view takes in all the wavelengths, and He's revealed what that view includes.
