Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. “Behold, I am alive forevermore.  I have the keys of Death and of Hades……”  The glorified Jesus spoke this to the Apostle John revealing what was yet to come.  Our greatest need is a future after death.  And as another year ends, we know that only Jesus can provide that future.

A new year, like a blank parchment, dawns with no written history. What happens then is known only to God. It makes a lot of sense to allow God to order our steps in the uncertain days ahead, because no one can do it better.

Soon we will celebrate the central event in human history, the coming of Jesus Christ to live among us.  While Christians can now enjoy the benefits of the Savior’s birth, life, death and resurrection, there was one person who felt great pain when He came.

The people of Jesus’ day were ruled by the Roman Empire. Many believed that Jesus would fulfill the prophecies to deliver them from that rule. But Jesus had a far greater deliverance to carry out, a deliverance from the power of sin.

In a Nazareth synagogue, Jesus opened a scroll of Isaiah the prophet. He began to read of good news for the poor, freedom for prisoners, sight for the blind, and liberty for the oppressed and ended by saying, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.”  Only the Son of God could say that.

Jesus came in poverty that we might be rich. In fact, according to the prophecies of Isaiah, He came as a servant. Today, we continue to look at Christ the servant, the one whose life, death and resurrection make Christmas possible.

Jesus will return one day as King of Kings. In His first coming, He was a servant to the will of God, giving His life to save His people from their sins.  Today, we will begin to look into three chapters of Isaiah, chapters that reveal what kind of servant Jesus was.
