Judge Not, That You Be Not Judged, Part 1 of 2 (Who Are You to Judge?)

November 15, 2016

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. We’re called to run life’s race on the high ground of God’s Word. We must discern right from wrong and truth from error. Where else can we go? We need the Bible. Otherwise, we’ll have little impact on a world in dire need of Jesus.

Some feel that the gift of tongues is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s presence. Others say modern tongues do not form words in any known language. Dr. Erwin Lutzer begins a careful study in 1 Corinthians 14, a study you won’t want to miss.

Our motivation for service in the body of Christ, and for serving our spouse, must be found in what the Bible calls “agape” love, the love that comes from God. Only then can we endure life’s tough times, and remain faithful to our commitments.

Love is the glue that binds the body of Christ together and makes it a place of mutual service. Without love, our best efforts are without true purpose. Turn with us to 1 Corinthians 13 as we learn why love is the highest motivator of all.

The local church you attend is but one small part of an enormous worldwide assembly that will never meet until eternity. Until then, we serve others where we are, knowing that our present experience only foreshadows what lies ahead.

The body of Christ involves accountability to “those who have the rule over you.” When we’re part of a local fellowship, accountability can take place. Let’s turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and learn what the local church is all about.

In the body of Christ, everyone has a gift with which to serve others. Knowing what that gift is, and putting it to work, are the keys to satisfaction and joy. As each does his or her part, the result is a marvelous harmony. Now let’s consider your gifts.

For some, church is a weekly duty. These people are missing out on the great adventure of finding their place in the body of Christ and learning how to serve in the power of the Spirit. Today, we want to ignite in you a passion for the church you attend.
