Jesus, Forgiveness, and You #2 of 2

May 13, 2010
When Jesus healed people, they had to want to be healed. The same is true for those seeking forgiveness...they had to desire it. The woman who wiped her own tears from Jesus' feet knew that this man could restore her dignity as well as forgive her moral sins. How badly do we want to be restored to fellowship with God? Today: a woman points the way for us to find the healing of our own souls.

He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. At what point is forgiveness impossible? Some feel that one moral failure condemns them. What about a hundred? Many assume God won't forgive moral sins, so they sin all the more, not knowing the mercy of the Christ who died for sins like these. Today: a real-life story of how Jesus restored the dignity of someone with a lifetime of sexual sin.

When pop stars sing about lovers they can't get out of their minds, they're on the right track. Those lovers are now part of them. Immoral relationships create very deep bonds, even between people having what they think is casual sex. And the more bonds we make, the tougher they are to break. Today: finding the way out of the damage done by not obeying God's moral rules.

Looking back on the scars of a broken relationship, one man said "Oh, the price I've had to pay for fifteen seconds of pleasure." Sex, with the wrong person, is more than a one-night stand. It imprints the partners with an indelible soul tie that can follow them to the grave. And multiple partners mean multiple soul ties, making real commitment almost impossible. Today we will learn how to break those bonds.

"I can do it and not get caught, if it's beautiful, it must be right...and, after all, I'm entitled to my own happiness." Time for some straight talk. Those are lies from hell, by which we rationalize our disobedience to God's commands about sex. And our list is not yet complete. Today we look at more ways we twist the truth to allow us to do what our hormones demand.

When rationalizing behavior, people say, "It's only a little white lie." Trouble is, when it comes to sex, lies aren't white. Driven by our desires, we've become experts at self-deception. We'll do whatever it takes to satisfy our urges, and then justify what we do by believing blatant lies.

Everyone has to handle sexual desires. Some do so God's way, while many choose their own path...the path of shame. The first couple sinned by disobeying God. Then the ripple effect moved into all areas of life, including sex. As time passed, people began using other people to gratify their desires without commitment. Today we look at one unavoidable after-effect of violating God's moral laws.

These days, some want to redefine marriage as any so-called loving relationship, no matter what gender the partners are. It's clear that our national soul is sick. Since marriage is God's appointed place for sex, marriage is under attack. People want to gratify their desires in every way but God's way. The result: millions of people's lives are tangled, their souls in turmoil. Stay with us.

It's one thing to have strong faith in God when the sun's shining and all's well with the world. It's quite another when storms come. Storms teach lessons that calm seas never teach. A boatload of prisoners was sailing to Rome when their vessel sank in gale force winds. Were it not for the courage of Paul, one of those prisoners, all would have been lost. Today we take a look at the last chapter in an amazing story of faith.

Mature Christians know God's will is not a flower-strewn pathway. Often, storms arise that threaten to throw us off-course. Paul was determined to go to Rome, knowing it would be a one0way trip. He would take the gospel to the highest levels of government, but while enroute, a shipwreck would slow his journey. Today we look at Paul's troubles on the way to see Caesar.

One never knows what a day may bring forth. Locked up for two years, Paul suddenly faces a Roman King. What would he say? He was on his way to Rome, knowing he faced almost certain death there. But not before getting the gospel to the heart of the world's dominant empire. On the way, he plead his case before Rome's king in Israel at the time. Paul seizes the moment to make sure the gospel is understood.
