Running To Win

Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Israel, Clay in the Potter's Hands, Part 1 of 2 (The Church in Babylon)

November 13, 2014

Many people think they are masters of their own destiny. But God sees His people as clay on a potter’s wheel, and since He is the potter, He controls their destiny. Freedom comes from seeing ourselves as vessels God can make and remake as He chooses.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. God had Babylon take Israel captive after Israel deceived itself into idolatry. He will not tolerate endless disobedience from His people. He did not tolerate it then, and He will not today. This story is in the early chapters of Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 2:13 says that Israel forsook God, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out broken cisterns for themselves which can hold no water. For this, God’s judgment fell.  Have we in the modern church also hewed out broken cisterns?

After Israel’s long disobedience, God had Babylon cart them off into captivity.  They became a minority in a pagan land, just as Christians are fast becoming a minority in America.

As we learn why the message of the cross can do what politics can’t, we’ll find out how to effectively take that message into the world.
November 4, 2014
There is a basic dilemma in evangelism. The world thinks the cross we preach is foolishness, but to us, it is the power of God. How do we bring the message of the cross to a rejecting world?
November 3, 2014
Americans are adrift in a sea of moral relativism. We need a moral compass. The cross of Christ is that compass, and the church must live by the cross if our culture is to survive.
October 31, 2014
A culture that rejects Christ is a culture that makes its own standard for moral choices. This moral standard influences our votes which determine our nation’s destiny. So where does true morality come from?
