When a potter throws clay on his wheel, that clay has no choice about what it is going to become. It’s job is to be still and be transformed. Seeing ourselves as clay helps us avoid the “I’m in charge” attitude we all too often have. As the Potter, God is in charge, and He has a purpose we cannot see, a purpose that will take us through the fire so that, one day, we will come out as gold.

We humans tend to think we are hot stuff. We think we are in control, little realizing that Someone else sets the agenda. Many believers have never seen themselves as clay on a potter’s wheel, being molded to suit the Potter’s purposes. As the tide of immorality rises, the damage done to marriages and families rises with it. One cause: Satan. Satan uses his demons to influence and indwell people, leaving behind a trail of destructive choices and actions. The victims of these actions are then left with pasts that are hard to deal with.

Philosophers have long wrestled with the root cause of evil in the human experience. Their answers are not satisfying. That is because we need to look outside ourselves, even outside our environments, to find one major cause of evil, and that cause is Satan, who seeks to destroy in any way he can.

It is said that hardened criminals and psychopaths have no shame. They can kill without showing a shred of remorse. Those who still have a conscience can feel shame, that sense of embarrassment when caught in a sinful act. Perhaps the greatest tool the devil uses to corrupt our culture is sexual abuse of the young. The damage done is terrible. Psychological damage is only the first kind. We cannot now comprehend the transformation that awaits us at the resurrection. It will be a moment of pure glory. Not only do we receive glorified bodies, but all of creation is transformed into a cosmic chorus shouting “glory” to the God who redeemed us. Today: the transcendant finale to the symphony of God’s glory, which is the end of time, and the beginning of a radiant eternity.
