October 10, 2008
We need sleep to strengthen us for the day to come. But when the sun rises in the morning, it's time to wake up and get to work. The race of life begins anew...the clock is advancing, and as Paul says, "our salvation is nearer than when we first believed." Indeed: as this age draws to a close, the clock is ticking ever louder. Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Are we on this earth just to take up space, eat, and die? No, we're put here to make a difference in the lives of others. Some people want to run their races of life within the four walls of a church. But others sense God's call to display the love which Jesus said would cause those in the world to be convicted of their sin. Do you sense this call? If so, please stay with us.

Just as the body has many parts, so the body of Christ has many members, each different, each with a spiritual gift... The race of life: it's most productive when everyone fulfills his or her God-given role. And Romans chapter 12 lists the spiritual gifts God gives to make fulfilling that role a joy, not a burden. Stay tuned: because your gift is in the list.

Today on Running to Win, we begin a series that explains why the local church is the place where those deep needs can best be met. When Jesus did His miracles, some were healed; others were not. Some were fed; others were not. Why? Jesus healed a blind man's eyes. Many today yearn for a miracle as well, and turn to faith-healers for deliverance. Christ's works of healing were complete. "Once I was blind, but now I can see." Can the same be said for the miracles of televangelists? Today: lessons from the Great Physician on miracles of healing.
