Finding Community in Fellowship, Part 1 of 2

February 25, 2013

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Community. We’re built with an innate desire to share our joys and sorrows. And being a Christian—part of the body of Christ—we can run the race of life with other members around to help us and cheer us on.

Living triumphantly in the midst of the worst life has to offer can be done by clinging to the promise that nothing—not even death—can separate you from the love of God. With that promise firmly grasped, you can be victorious in this life despite the circumstances.

Among the most soaring words ever penned are those at the end of Romans 8 where the Apostle Paul lists all of the things that cannot separate us from God’s love. If you’re in need of encouragement, today’s message will lift your heart.

A death row inmate doesn’t have a lot to look forward to. For unbelievers, the outlook is just as grim. But for those who’ve trusted Christ as Savior and have become children of God, we have been pardoned and our future will be glorious.

As we explore the Bible, we come upon a horde of blessings that we inherit when we become children of God. Blessings that should encourage us when we realize what lies ahead. In today’s message, Pastor Lutzer goes through just a partial list of our inheritance.

The greatest proof that God is on our side and willing to give us all things is that He’s already given us His most precious gift—His Son. God’s choice to hand over His Son in order to redeem us was voluntary, so if He gave us Jesus, wouldn’t He also freely give us all things?

The best news you will ever hear will comes from the Word of God, applied by the Spirit of God, designed to transform your life. Perhaps no other verse in Scripture exemplifies what He’s done for us throughout eternity better than Romans 8:29-30. A close read reveals that all of the verbs used are past tense – even those yet to come in our future.
