Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. When the government commands one thing and the Bible commands the opposite, what do we do? The answer is not always clear, since we are called to obey those who rule over us. How four men handled this in ancient Babylon can give us guidance.

Christians in America are rapidly becoming like Daniel and his friends in Babylon. The Christian life is out of sync with our pagan environment. How do we reconcile what we believe with what we must do in order to live in such a culture?

Once, Christians were a dominant force in American culture. That day is no more. How do we live as a minority in a now-pagan culture? The surprising answers come from Jeremiah 29, where God tells captive Israel how to live in a faraway land.

Should believers living under national judgment circle the wagons and live off the grid, or engage their flawed culture with enthusiasm? The surprising answer comes from God’s instructions to captive Judah living in Babylon.

Jesus looked on Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives and wept over the destruction He knew the Romans would soon bring. Centuries earlier, the prophet Jeremiah wept when the city was destroyed. Do we weep for our nation, soon to feel judgment?
