Babylon, Idolatry, and You, Part 2 of 2 (The Church in Babylon)

July 18, 2017

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Some wonder what good it is to have faith in God when He never seems to answer their prayers. Many lose what faith they have and give up on God altogether. In today’s message we look at the heroes of faith who believed God no matter what.

When our faith in God is genuine, it causes us to make choices in God’s favor. We willingly take the risk of being alienated from those around us when we choose God’s way over that of the world. That’s what Moses did, as we read in Hebrews chapter eleven.

Some people say they have faith, yet their lives show little evidence of it. Others who have faith are willing to take risks to live out that faith. In this message we focus on this latter kind of faith, the kind that will survive when times of testing come.

The return of Jesus to this earth will be the event of all time. When He comes, He will take control. And those who have loved and served him will be raised from the dead to greet him.  Let’s hear the climactic conclusion to our series on “What We Believe.”

The Bible gives tantalizing details about a heavenly kingdom beyond all description, a New Jerusalem with streets of gold. In this message we begin a final chapter in “What We Believe,” and a peek through the mists of time into the timelessness of eternity.

One day Jesus will be united with His church at a great marriage supper of the Lamb in heaven.  What that will be like is our focus in this message, as Pastor Lutzer wraps up his study of the church in our series “What We Believe.”

In Greek, the word is ekklesia, the “called-out ones.” In English, the word is “church,” and if you believe in Jesus, you’re “called out” to be separate from the values of our culture. That’s hard to do, but with the support of a local assembly, it becomes a lot easier.

It’s clear the devil is having a field day. Evil is running rampant. But a day is coming when a long-delayed sentence of doom will be carried out. In this message we’ll hear about Satan’s present activity, and then his ultimate end.
