A Wavering Faith, Part 2 of 2 (Strength for the Journey)

May 25, 2016

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. Abraham was chosen by God to leave the comforts of Ur and journey to a land he had never seen. His house became a tent, and he came face to face with challenges he had never expected. Abraham’s faith was tested repeatedly.

Before there was a Bible, before the Old Testament was written, God called a man out of Ur and promised to make him into a great nation. Seeing that promise fulfilled required great faith. Abraham faced a lifelong journey of trust in God.

Believers of all ages will one day inhabit the New Jerusalem. The Bible says it’s both gigantic and glorious. The book of Revelation gives us the details, and if you are a follower of Jesus, it is your future home.

Medieval art portrays the afterlife with saints in glory above and sinners in torment below. Hell is portrayed as a place of fire, which the lost will inhabit for eternity. In our “enlightened” age, however, hell is no longer taken seriously.

Many people think God is more tolerant now than He was in the Old Testament. Christians don’t stone people for sin like the Israelites did. So has God changed?

In the Old Testament, God seems harsh. In the New Testament, He is seen as a God of love.  Some wonder if a kinder, gentler God emerged after Jesus came. But God has not changed in His attributes and purposes. He still judges sin and draws near to the repentant.

If you’re a dad, and your son is gravely ill in the hospital, you’d do anything to trade places and bear your son’s pain. The same is true for God the Father. When His Son Jesus agonized on the cross, God felt the pain His Son was enduring, knowing He was paying the price for sin.
