A Strengthened Heart, Part 1 of 2 (When Jesus Has Your Heart)

July 15, 2013

The Holy Spirit is our helper, our companion, and our teacher. He is the continuation of the presence of Jesus in believers—all believers—simultaneously, all over the world. If Jesus had not ascended to heaven, He could not have sent His Spirit to us. He is with us at all times, illuminating the Word of God and changing us by the wisdom He gives us. And He will continue to do so forever.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. With a believing heart we can do even greater works than Jesus did while He was here on Earth. In today’s message, Pastor Lutzer will explain what Jesus meant when He said, “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do.”

Jesus isn’t just “one of the guys” —He is God. And a promise He made to His followers was that they would do greater works than He had. While on Earth, His ministry was geographically limited. But with a believing heart and with His Spirit, through the works of translators, and through transportation, radio, television, and the internet, His believers are reaching the world with His Word.

The reality of heaven is a sure antidote for the crushing weight of anxiety we sometimes feel on this Earth. Are you weighed down by fear? Remember the words of Jesus: a place is being prepared.
July 10, 2013
With a heart fixed on heaven, secured by trust in Christ, we can make it through anything thrown at us here on earth. We can turn off our anxiety if we stay focused on the Way, the Truth and the Life—on Jesus Himself.

Judas gave us a glimpse of human nature without restraints, without the intervention of God’s grace, and without repentance.

The gate to hell is right next to the gate that leads to heaven. How did Judas, who followed Christ for three years, not go through the gate to heaven? Judas’ covetous heart, determined will, and deceitful mind led him to the wrong door. And when Judas had the chance, he rejected God’s grace, sealing his fate for all of eternity.

Even mature Christians can’t get through a single day without the need to confess their sins. That’s why Jesus washed His disciples’ dusty feet: to show us that we need daily cleansing, without which we have no part with Him.
July 4, 2013
A clean heart is something every single person needs. And the One who washed the disciples’ feet is the only One who can wash our hearts. Pastor Lutzer asks and answers five life-changing questions: Who needs to be cleansed? How can we be cleansed? What is the purpose of cleansing? How often must we be cleansed? And lastly, how do we help others be cleansed?

Jesus turned the world on its head when He stooped to wash His disciples’ feet.   Superiors don’t serve inferiors, do they? In the kingdom of God, they do. Let’s learn about the character of Christ, and then go out and do what He would do: practice servant leadership.
July 2, 2013
Do you have a servant’s heart? Jesus knew that His time had come; He knew His mission and His destination. At that hour, He–the Creator–got down on His hands and knees and washed the feet of His creation. It was through this act of service that He showed us the path to greatness.
