Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Sometimes, we second-guess God. Knowing what His will is, we may try to engineer circumstances to bring it to pass, and that’s what Abraham did when God said he would have numberless offspring. Since his wife was past childbearing years, he took her advice and slept with their Egyptian maid Hagar.  The result produced consequences that are still with us today.

Most legal covenants between two parties require both to be faithful to the promises they have made to each other. But there is another covenant. In Genesis 15, God makes an unconditional covenant with Abraham. God says He will do what He promises—no matter what. And the Lord never goes back on a promise. In today’s message, Pastor Lutzer will show us why that covenant means that the work of Jesus is all that’s needed for a believer to gain eternal life.

Every test that you and I face in the Christian life comes down to two questions—one: “Is God trustworthy?” and two: “Can I trust God?” As Pastor Lutzer continues his series on Abraham, we’ll learn that God is completely trustworthy, and that we can, indeed, trust Him with everything.

In Genesis 14 we meet two kings. Abraham chose to follow the righteous King of Salem, Melchizedek . Lot chose to follow the worldly King of Sodom. Today, we too have to decide which king to follow: King Jesus or the world. In today’s message, learn the outcome of Abraham and Lot’s different decisions.

The book of Genesis is a book of beginnings. We see the creation, the Fall, and the first mention of God’s intent to provide a Redeemer through a nation of His choosing. Abraham, who would be the father of many nations, was tested over and over again. In today’s message, we’ll see Abraham victorious in battle, and generous when facing another man of God.

Abraham and Lot part ways. Lot deferred to his greed; Abraham deferred to God. In today’s message we’ll learn that there’s a difference between what you take and what God gives you.

After backsliding in Egypt, Abraham is back in fellowship with God, and his renewed faith is clearly seen during a dispute with his nephew Lot. In today’s message we’ll learn the difference between these two men—and the differences in where they placed their faith.

Abraham’s first test of faith and trust in God comes without warning and without instructions. God wants to see what kind of response Abraham is going to have. And Abraham fails his first test.

A call of God has to supersede a call to our immediate families. In the life of Abraham, the call of God was even more important than his country or kindred. In today’s message, we’ll learn about a test that showed whether or not Abraham really learned to trust God.

People make promises all the time and break them. New Year’s resolutions are prime examples. But when God makes a promise, you can trust that He’ll come through on it. God chose Abraham, telling him that all the earth would be blessed through his posterity—but Abraham would only ever see that promise fulfilled through the eyes of faith.
