In the days following the resurrection, Jesus appeared many times to his disciples and follower. He would show up, disappear, show up, disappear, and so on, until he gave them the Holy Spirit to come and live inside of them so they would never be alone again. And this is how it has been ever since. But one day He will come back in person and in all of his glory. So even though we don’t see Him now, one day we will.

It is interesting that even Jesus’ closest followers and disciples, who was with him almost 24/7 for three years, and heard everything from him, about him and saw in him, that even they would go to his tomb after his crucifixion expecting to find a dead body. But he had risen on the third day just as he said he would. So if they struggled with this truth while being at his side, how much greater it is when we believe and yet had not seen.

One of the greatest shames a person can have is when they are stripped down to nothing. The world can see everything about you while holding nothing back. And the truth is that Jesus, at his torture and crucifixion, was stripped bare naked as he took on the sins of all mankind. And now we need to come to him completely open and naked of any hindrances to allow him to cloth us in his forgiveness and righteousness.

You can tell a lot about a man just by looking at his hands – what kind of work or hobby he does, his strength, his firmness, his gentleness, attention to cleanliness, hardness of life, and many others. And when looking at the hands of Jesus you can see his firmness of never letting you go, his compassion that will always hold you, his firmness of correction, his ruggedness of provision, and most of all his immense love by the nail scars in his palms.

It doesn't matter whether you are a Christian or not, there are many different adversaries we face every day of our lives. The temptations that confront us come with a promise of something more than we have but every single one of them have one purpose – to take us down. And the ultimate foe in our lives is the devil whose ultimate purpose is our destruction. But believers have one thing, THE One thing that can overcome – Jesus Christ. His victory has led the way for our victory over the devil and his temptations.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
