God has shown us in Scripture that He can use anyone, no matter how much of a mess they’ve made in their life, for His glory and His plans. But when we feel like we are stepping out in obedience, we sometimes have to wrestle with God to get His blessing in what we’re doing. We cannot force Him to bless us, but we can hold on to a point where we are left with a scar to remember His work after His blessing.

Often times we spend too much time working to provide a certain lifestyle that we don’t necessarily need. Money is not a bad thing to have, but if we spend all of our time working for it rather than investing in relationships with our family and God then we are wasting our life.

Jesus gave the command for all of us to make disciples of people all over the world. We need to follow wherever He leads and not only make disciples, but teach them to do the same.

When we become Christians, God puts His Spirit in us to help us follow Him and live passionately for Him. When we ignore His Spirit, we become desensitized to His leading and we find ourselves in a mess of our own sin. God can always re-light His fire in us and make it unquenchable, we just have to ask Him.

It’s fine to begin in the shallow end when in comes to being a Christian, but eventually we need to move into the deep end. We need to learn from others, apply what we learn, and then go out and make more disciples.

When we choose not to deny ourselves like Jesus tells us to do in Scripture, we begin denying God and we choose our own will over His. If we want to have a truly full life that God offers us we have to let go of our own selfishness, put to death our own will, and take on His life by fully submitting to His will.

We are only on this earth for a time and we need to be making the most of it. God will tell us our purpose for being here the more we seek Him through Scripture and prayer and He gives us His wisdom. When we are living out our purpose, we are reaching others’ lives for God’s Kingdom.

God gave us the law through Moses to show us that we are incapable of following it completely without Him. That is why He sent Jesus to open our eyes and see His light that shines all around us and can shine in and through us if we let Him.

Rather than being stubborn and thinking that we know everything, the Bible tells us to learn from one another. The only way we can learn is if we humble ourselves and become teachable. When we’re learning from those who are further along we can help teach those who are behind us.

While God offers us abundant life through Jesus Christ, we often choose to live on the side of “lush” that inevitably brings destruction. When we realize that we are tempted, we must be vulnerable with other brothers and sisters in Christ, asking them to help us through the temptation so that we may experience the lush life that God has for us.

God tests our obedience often and we have to be walking in the Spirit to hear His promptings and obey. When God prompts us to talk to others about Jesus, we need to be able and willing to share with them the message of the Gospel and give them the reason for the hope that we have.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
