What Happens Here Stays Here

October 17, 2016

The only place that can ever truly have the claim that “what happens here stays here” is the foot of the cross. When we accept Christ’s forgiveness and love, we leave our old selves behind and we become new creations. We must never forget that bad seed produces bad fruit no matter where we plant it, and good seed produces good fruit no matter how long it takes to grow.

For some reason we think that we are in control of ourselves, our decisions, or even to some extent the result of an election. As Christians, we have the responsibility to live a godly life, and so that we must do. Unlike any material thing, God hears, sees, and understands our problems and it is Him who calls the shots, and His plan always prevails.

There is a very big difference between someone who is a father and someone who fathers. Rather than simply adopting us into His family and letting us be, God desires a continued growing father/child relationship. Jesus tells us to ask our Father for all that we need and He will provide it. We must never forget to thank Him for the gifts that He gives.

There are times in our lives when God rescues us from the destruction we have been living in, but it is so very tempting to simply look back. Rather than looking back, may we look forward and press on towards the goal that has been set for us in Christ Jesus.

One of the most difficult things to forgive is sexual sin, whether it means forgiving someone who sexually harmed us or forgiving ourselves for the sexual acts we’ve done. The only one who can bring true sexual healing regardless of the past is Jesus, and He wants to make things right with us so that we may have a beautiful fulfilling marriage and enjoy sex the way it was intended to be.

The fact is that everyone is in bondage, held captive by a master. While we all started as slaves to sin, because of the price that Jesus paid we can be freed from our bondage to sin and alive as slaves to righteousness.

The story in the Bible of the prodigal son depicts for us a picture of God the Father anxiously waiting for us to come to Him no matter where we’ve been or what we’ve done. There is nothing that we can do that will ever keep Him from loving us and accepting us as His child.

God does not cause fear and confusion for us. He offers us the Holy Spirit to live inside of us and fill us with power, love and a sound mind. When we have Him inside of us, nothing can stand against us.

In the Old Testament people had to make an animal sacrifice as payment for their sins, the aroma being satisfying to God. In Christ’s death, God no longer smelt the sacrifice, He tasted it Himself to make a payment for us so that we can experience true relationship with Him.

We are promised that if we put our faith in Jesus and receive the gift of salvation that we will get to live in Heaven for eternity after death in this world. Once in Heaven we will have an understanding of why certain things happened on earth and we can worship God for the work He was doing that was unseen at the time.

God is loving, but there is a real heaven and hell and those who go to hell are the ones that have not accepted His gift of salvation. If our names are in the Book of Life, we must make sure that we are spreading the message of the Gospel to those whose names are not yet in the Book.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
