When Jesus ate His last meal with His disciples, He took a moment to encourage them to remember the death that He was about to experience. He took a cup of wine that symbolized His blood as well as a piece of bread that symbolized His body being broken and He gave thanks. Jesus thanked God for what represented the worst suffering anyone would ever endure. It is in giving thanks that we remember the benefits that God gives to us.  Therefore, we must be thankful for all things, obeying God’s command to always remember what He has done.

God has blessed us beyond what we could even comprehend, and the best way to thank Him for all He has given us is to turn around and give Him all we have. David gave us this example when it was recorded how much gold, silver and other jewels he gave merely to decorate the temple of God. All are given much, but few take the time to be thankful. God is asking of us to give generously what we have, because when we do He always fills us with so much more.

In the last days before Jesus died on the cross, He talked with His disciples and shared with them that He would be leaving them but that they would have the Holy Spirit to help them. He prayed for them and for future believers that they would be united together as one. This oneness spoken of in Scripture applies to marriages, families and the Church.  When the Church is unified as one Body, it is made clear to the world that Jesus is the one that holds us all together and we reflect the true nature and love of God.

We all tend to point our fingers at other people and judge their sin when we hide a sin that no one likes to talk about because it makes us uncomfortable. Gluttony is talked about specifically in the Bible as a sin, but we do not think of this when we sit down at a table full of food. If at the end of a meal, you feel like you have eaten too much, you have sinned.  We need to stop judging others and go to someone we trust in our life to help us clean out our cupboards from the temptation of pigging out.

The majority of people who do not go to church would go if they were personally invited. Many people feel as though they would be crashing a party, if they went to a church without an invitation.  Jesus’ invitation is for all and so as His Church we need to intentionally extend an invitation to everyone to come. When we accept the invitation God gives us to be part of His family and to eventually be at His party for all eternity, He responds by saying, “You’re Welcome.”

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
