We all have things in our lives that we have said won’t happen until pigs fly.  Maybe it’s something we’ve been told at a very young age that we could never do or maybe it’s an addiction we have that we don’t think will ever be conquered.  The fact is Jesus said that He would never leave us nor forsake us.  When God says something, He’s going to follow through with what He says He’s going to do.  So if He has promised to equip you with whatever you need to accomplish the impossible, you can trust that He will even make pigs fly if that’s what it takes.

Everyone has biological parents and we have all been given the command to honor them, whether or not they deserve it.  This is the command that comes with the promise that we will live long with we honor our parents.  Often times parents make mistakes, some small ones, some huge ones.  Nevertheless, the command still stands, and to not honor them sets an example for your kids to follow to not honor you and it goes down from generation to generation.  Even Jesus honored the Father while He was here on earth, and so in the same way we are to honor our parents, even if it is simply for the fact that they gave us life.

A reality of life is that sometimes things happen that stump us.  It could be the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or just anything that leaves us asking God, “What are you doing?”  Even people like John the Baptist and the disciples found themselves stumped sometimes.  The best reaction to when we are stumped by something is to seek God for answers because He can take our questions.  In this world there will be many moments where we find ourselves stumped, but when we enter eternity with Christ, He will make all things known to us, and so until then we take heart and keep pressing forward.

Paul wrote in his letter to the Philippians for them to imitate him because he modeled what it meant to follow Christ.  He never said he was perfect, but he knew that he was at least a few steps ahead of them.  In the same way, we are to find someone to follow who would be willing to be a mentor, a leader, while at the same time we are to lead someone else.  That is where maturity comes in, by following someone who is more mature.  Discipleship happens when we lead someone else, showing them what it looks like to follow Christ.  That is when a legacy of life is left is when you lead someone in such a way to equip them to lead others

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
