Jesus gave us the instructions that we are supposed to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, and visit those who are sick and in prison. He said that if we do these things then we are doing them for Him. We often miss out on these opportunities because we do not view those who are hungry, thirsty, naked, sick or imprisoned as Jesus Himself. But when we allow the Spirit to lead us, He will open our eyes so that we can make the most of those opportunities to serve those considered to be least in society. Just because we have a ticket to Heaven does not mean we can go to sleep. We are called to be the body of Christ, which means we need to move and serve just as He did.

Once you become a Christian, your new life has just begun and you need to learn to stand on your own two feet. Often times people celebrate when someone becomes a Christian, but too few people ignore the necessity for discipleship in teaching that new baby Christian how to stand. When we listen to God and are willing to obey, He guides us to divine appointments for us to meet with people who have been calling out for Him. If we ignore those people, it’s not just them that we are standing up but it is God. Only when we live according to His guidance in our lives and are willing to do whatever it is He calls us to do, that is when we will truly live a full life with purpose.

The Honor System

The Old Testament gives us a picture of the detailed Tabernacle that God had His people build to worship Him. It even detailed the intricacies of the clothing of the priests. While all of this was beautiful and important, the purpose of all of it was to slaughter an animal and spill its blood to cover the sins of all the people. This kind of sacrifice would cover them physically and would cover their sins, but it was not until the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that anyone has been given the covering of a clean conscience. We can try to clean ourselves up before approaching God, but we better not ever approach Him without being washed in the blood of Christ because it is only through His blood that we can be made clean.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
