The Final Foe

September 10, 2014
The devil tempts everyone to sin, but as Christians we have the power within us because of Christ to fight against those temptations. Jesus’ death and resurrection not only gave us victory over sin and the flesh but even over death itself so that we will live with Him for all eternity.

Instead of being intimidated by the Bible we need to open it up and read it, allowing God to use it in our lives to speak to us and change us. If there is something we don’t understand then we need to find someone who can teach it to us. The Bible is full of treasures that God has given to us to reveal Himself and His love for us.

When Jesus lives and is working in us, we can’t help but to speak up and tell others about it. God will bring opportunities our way to tell others about Him and we need to have the boldness to step out of our comfort zones and say something.

We all try to portray a certain image through the way we look, the things we have and the careers we choose. When God made us He put His own image inside each of us and the only way we can reflect who He is in us is if Christ is working and changing us from the inside out.

There are times in our lives when we face seemingly impossible situations and we turn to God and ask Him for a miracle to fix what it is we are facing. Sometimes He does choose to perform a miracle because He will get glory out of it and it is also for the purpose of building our trust and faith in Him.

The way God designed the family to work is for the man to be the head and take the responsibility. The only way this can work in the greatest way is if that man is following God as his head. God is good and full of grace to help pick the man up when he has stumbled so that he can continue moving forward, following after God’s model of perfect love.

We tend to be excellent at things that will not last forever such as our jobs, our families, or even our sin. Some of those things are not bad things to be skilled at, but we need to make sure that we are putting in all that it takes to be excellent in our spiritual lives rather than settling for being so-so.

Proverbs 31 describes a virtuous woman that every woman should strive to become. No matter how difficult or easy our circumstances, we cannot achieve this without Christ who gives us strength and who works in us and through us to make us more like Himself.

God did not have to create things so intricately, so beautiful, or even pleasure-filled, yet every bit of His creation speaks of His love for us. All we have to do is look around at the ways that He has blessed us, even in such a small thing as popcorn that is a seemingly silly treat.

The Bible tells us that we will face suffering and persecution merely for living godly lives, but that our relationship with God is more valuable than avoiding that suffering. Everyone suffers, but the difference between the world and us is that we have the power of God in us and His presence surrounding us at all times.

We will have to give an account for everything we’ve done on earth when we stand before God. God’s grace is extended to us if we have accepted Christ as our Savior and our sins are covered by His blood, but we are rewarded for the things that we do for Him and those are the kinds of rewards that last.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
