The Bone Yard

July 23, 2010

Have you ever seen something that was dead come back to life? Most would say no. But the truth is if we are believers who have given our lives over to Christ, or a relationship is restored, or even when a broken heart is healed, we actually are one of those people. Because what we thought was once dead can be made new with life through Christ. Ezekiel was given this very illustration when he saw a valley of bones come back to life. We see it even today when something is made whole again.

The story of Jonah is a classic illustration of the different between disobedience and obedience. When we choose to do our own thing, we only make a mess of things and dig a hole deeper and deeper. It would be so much better if we would choose the path of obedience because it is then that we know our steps are guided and secure. It’s not always the easier path, but it is the right path.

The only way to know the thoughts and intentions of someone is to spend a great deal of time with them so you can understand them and how they are wired. This is the same with getting to know Christ, you must spend time with him to know him. We’re not just talking a little prayer here and there or cracking the Bible open to read a verse or two – it has to be intentional, both in motive and time. Only then can we begin to track with Him.

There are three people in the New Testament that have very similar qualities to most of us – we can see ourselves in the lives of one of these. Peter was boisterous and off the cuff, Paul was sophisticated and controlling, and Mary of Magdalene had a scarlet-filled life. But all three were miraculously transformed by the saving power of Christ. Once Jesus gets a hold of your life, you will never be the same!

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
