Saying you believe God will take care of you is one thing, but to step out in faith puts those words into action. We can all look back on our lives and see that God has provided all we have needed time and time again, yet we still find it difficult to trust him. Numerous stories of men in the Bible show how trusting God and obeying Him has changed the world. Rather than sitting around being comfortable our whole lives, we need to hear whatever God is calling us to do and step out and do it. Just as a loving father will catch their child every time when that child jumps from a high branch every, we can trust that God will catch us every time we take a leap of faith.

The story of Lot and his family fleeing from Sodom when God destroyed the city is a bittersweet one. They were saved, but his wife looked back and was therefore turned into a pillar of salt. We must choose to not look back at the things that God rescues us from. We need to be fully present where God has placed us and focused on where He is moving us forward. Rather than being like a fish who jumps out of an aquarium because they think it’s better on the other side, we need to be content where God has put us because it is there that He provides all that we need.

Various Scriptures tell us the stories and examples of animals’ ability to be tamed and obey commands. However, the Bible also tells us that no man can tame his tongue. The taming of one’s tongue comes from the Holy Spirit, otherwise we may not always say something but we still think negative and derogatory things that we will eventually say the more we think them. God is the only one who can tame the tongue and so rather than trying in our own efforts, we should work on growing in relationship with Him so that He can tame us over time.

It’s easy to make a resolution to do something, but sticking with it is a different story.  When it comes to obeying God in what He has called you to do, it is not something that happens once and then you’re done.  Obedience is an every day pursuit.  With the same concept of perseverance, Jesus invites us to ask God for anything under the context that our attitude reflects His own – “Not my will but Yours be done.”  When we ask our Heavenly Father for something under this condition, Jesus instructs us to continue to ask with perseverance.  As a loving Father, He has promised to take care of all of our needs and to give us what we ask of Him according to His will.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
