So-So

September 2, 2014
We tend to be excellent at things that will not last forever such as our jobs, our families, or even our sin. Some of those things are not bad things to be skilled at, but we need to make sure that we are putting in all that it takes to be excellent in our spiritual lives rather than settling for being so-so.

Proverbs 31 describes a virtuous woman that every woman should strive to become. No matter how difficult or easy our circumstances, we cannot achieve this without Christ who gives us strength and who works in us and through us to make us more like Himself.

God did not have to create things so intricately, so beautiful, or even pleasure-filled, yet every bit of His creation speaks of His love for us. All we have to do is look around at the ways that He has blessed us, even in such a small thing as popcorn that is a seemingly silly treat.

The Bible tells us that we will face suffering and persecution merely for living godly lives, but that our relationship with God is more valuable than avoiding that suffering. Everyone suffers, but the difference between the world and us is that we have the power of God in us and His presence surrounding us at all times.

We will have to give an account for everything we’ve done on earth when we stand before God. God’s grace is extended to us if we have accepted Christ as our Savior and our sins are covered by His blood, but we are rewarded for the things that we do for Him and those are the kinds of rewards that last.

We will constantly be tempted to sell out our Christianity for a certain reputation, job, relationship, anything that the devil might offer us. We must remember that our relationship with Jesus is priceless and He has already given us all that we could ever want in Himself.
August 26, 2014
God has promised to protect us and give us power over the devil, and since He lives in us we have access to everything we need when trials come. Rather than fearing the circumstances which leads to disobedience, we need to praise God and have faith in Him and His promises.

God had designed each unique person to accomplish His work in the world. When we discover what it is that we are passionate about, we can use that passion to help grow the Kingdom of God.
August 22, 2014
We can choose to wait around and do nothing for the Kingdom while waiting for the end of the world to come or we can serve as soldiers in the Army of God fighting for the souls of others. We need to focus on the work God has given us to do, and when He comes back we will be ready.
August 21, 2014
God wants us to pursue Him because when we do that our hearts begin to change and He places specific desires in us to pray about. When we pray with persistence about these things that He has put on our hearts, He promises that He will give us those desires.
August 20, 2014
The story of Samson shows us a man who continually made the same mistakes and ended up paying severe consequences. If we are watchful, we can see warning signs when we are approaching sins that we’ve paid consequences for in the past so that we can avoid it this time around.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
