When we find ourselves in trouble with our finances when we’ve been spending more money than we’ve been taking in.  The same goes for our spiritual life.  When we are not continually getting filled by God in reading His truth in Scripture, our spirits get in a place of deficit and we are vulnerable to attack.  God had given us His Word so that we may take in His truth, apply it to our own lives and then share it with others.  It is His truth that we can stand firmly in, but it does not help us unless we read it and understand it.  When we find ourselves spiritually in the red, we must go back to His Word and read.

It is not wrong to have doubts about our salvation and belief in God.  However, there is a time to get past our doubts and fully surrender to Him in faith.  One of Jesus’ disciples, Thomas, had difficulty believing in Christ’s resurrection until he was able to see and feel the scars himself.  We do not have that luxury, yet Jesus says we are blessed when we believe without seeing.  Acknowledge when you have doubts, face them and then move past them because continuing to live in doubt without moving into faith can be the most detrimental choice you choose.

We all have situations in our life that has caused us deep grief.  Isaiah wrote about bringing a message of hope to the poor, of healing to the brokenhearted and of joy to those who are mourning.  When Jesus was here on earth He stood up at one point and spoke the same words of Isaiah, proclaiming that He is the man to fulfill these words.  Our lives may be scattered with ashes but He is the one who promises to bring beauty from them if we would just let Him.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
