Remember the Titan

February 11, 2014
There are challenges that come up in our lives when it seems impossible for us to overcome, but with God all things are possible. We need to remember when we have come out stronger from challenges that have been presented to us so that we can face oncoming obstacles with faith in God to bring us through.

Many of us tend to have a sacred cow in our lives, something that we hold as an idol. Jesus died as the sacrificial payment for our sins, and so we must remember that when we hold on to something that is not pleasing to God we are abusing the grace that has been given to us.

We all make mistakes in our lives, but the goal is to make more right turns than wrong ones. No matter how many wrong turns we’ve taken in our lives, Jesus is always inviting us to a different path where we can begin making right turns as He leads us to do so.

The significant parts of our lives may not be the most happy times, but rather the moments when we chose to be faithful to God in the midst of trial and pain. The Bible tells story after story, highlighting people who were faithful to God and chose to obey Him no matter what and God honored that.

The Christian life only begins with giving your life to Christ and it is continued in and through you every day. You cannot live it out by yourself which is why God designed the Church so that we could do this together.

Discipleship is a calling for every disciple of Christ. When you become a Christian you must find other Christians that you can follow, and as you follow them you can learn how to lead others as well.

History proves over and over that there on consequences for disobedience to God. You must make the decision to do the right thing, and when you fall down to get back up and keep moving. Your choice of obedience will pay off in the end.

A motley crew is a group of people who are very different from one another. We need to realize that the Kingdom of God is a motley crew, and knowing this should help us reach out to others around us no matter how different they seem. We may all be different from one another but we, as believers, all have one purpose and that is to fulfill the work of God.

When you become a Christian, you join a family that together carries out the work of God in the world. You must learn to love believers and nonbelievers alike, and that can only be done with God’s help. Being a part of the Church is not all about what you get out of it but also what you have to offer to it.

Just like the Flinstones would get in their car and use their man power to make it go anywhere, we are too often living our spiritual life in our own power. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of us as believers and we must tap into that power, allowing Him to live through us.

No matter what your circumstances look like, it is possible to be content because God has provided all that you need. When you focus on God and His Kingdom, your material possessions are merely used for Him and therefore no matter much or how little you have, it does not determine your choice to be content.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
