There are many people that you can get in a conversation wish that will question your beliefs and argue with you merely to take you out.  While we can easily assume that these people would be unreligious atheists, sometimes it’s the most religious people that unrelentingly question the truth because they are too caught up in their traditions and rituals that they fail to see the light.  While we should avoid these conversations because they produce no fruit, we also need to evaluate ourselves and make sure that we are not too caught up in our own ways and playing the devil’s advocate to what God may be trying to show us.

While there are many great moms in the world, there are also plenty of sorry mothers.  These mothers have made huge mistakes when it came to raising their children.  The fortunate part is that there is redemption.  If you have made some big mistakes in raising your children, own those mistakes and confess it to them.  You can still model to your kids, no matter how old they are, what it looks like to get your life turned around and live as a new creation in Jesus.  On the other side of things, if your mom was a really great mother and you gave her a lot of grief, it is also important that you own your faults and apologize to her and tell her she’s done a great job.  God can always work with softened hearts and are willing to let Him mold them and make some changes.

The story of Rahab in the book of Joshua is a great example of a woman who trusted God and turned her life around.  She is described in the story as a harlot, yet she hid the spies sent by Joshua into the city and because of that her life was spared.  Joshua and all the Israelites marched around the city as described in the story and when the walls fell down Rahab’s house and all who were in it were spared.  Some things God asks us to do may seem very silly, but we need to trust that God has a greater plan in mind and when we obey Him we are taking part in His plan.  Later in Scripture we read that Rahab is in the genealogy of King David, and most importantly of Jesus.  Her faith and bravery can be an example to us.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
