Out of Africa

December 19, 2013
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, an angel of God warned Joseph of danger in a dream and told him to take Mary and Jesus up to Egypt in Africa. God had already supplied them with what they would need to go and so Joseph obeyed immediately. When God tells us something, whether directly or verified by others, we need to obey immediately no matter what it is He’s telling us to do because the only safe place to truly be is exactly where He has called you.

The same Jesus who was miraculously born of a virgin comes to live in us when we surrender our lives to Him, and He works in us in seemingly impossible ways to make us more like Him so that we can’t help but to speak His name to others around us. Rather than looking at what is humanly possible when God is involved, we should give ourselves to Him, trusting that He can do whatever He pleases.

When God calls us to something, we need to not get hung up on the impossibility of it but rather trust Him to provide whatever is needed. At Christmas time, there are so many opportunities to tell others the Gospel, so may we embrace those moments with boldness, trusting God to give us the words and the courage when necessary.

It is interesting to see how Jesus, the God of the universe, came so humbly to earth being born in a barn. His ministry shows Him reaching out to lost people normally seen as lower class. The need for Jesus in our lives equates us all, and we can all worship Him together.

God always answers our prayers, but sometimes His answer is that we need to wait. When we cannot see what He has in store, we need to trust Him and obey, waiting on Him to come through to meet our needs.

Trying hold on as tightly as possible to your life and your plans is a sure way to lose it all in the end. The only way of winning is to lose yourself to God, letting go of everything and living in obedience to Him.

The Christian life is like running a race, and you need to run as if you want to win. It takes work, it’s not easy, but God puts people in your life to help run with you. Let go of the things that are weighing you down and run the race until the end with endurance and determination.

We are promised that if we put our faith in Jesus and receive the gift of salvation that we will get to live in Heaven for eternity after death in this world. Once in Heaven we will have an understanding of why certain things happened on earth and we can worship God for the work He was doing that was unseen at the time.

God is loving, but there is a real heaven and hell and those who go to hell are the ones that have not accepted His gift of salvation. If your name is in the Book of Life, make sure that you are spreading the message of the Gospel to those whose names are not yet in the Book.

Just like in the story of the prodigal son, God is waiting for us to return to Him. He allows the pain in our lives often times to bring us back to Him. When we return, it does not matter how broken we are, He has promised to rebuild and restore us.
December 6, 2013
We cannot leave the job of telling others about Christ to preachers. We must take responsibility for the people that God has placed in our lives and tell them about Him. We may be the only person they have to tell them about the free gift of salvation.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
