On the Job

February 20, 2014
Every Christian is called to share the Gospel with everyone around them. The greatest way that you can show that the Gospel has made a difference in your life is by living differently than everyone else, being the salt and light. Wherever God has placed you, make sure you are doing your job as a Christian on the job.

God is described in the Bible as implementing truth at the same time as mercy over and over again. Without mercy, truth becomes too difficult to grasp, and without truth, mercy allows for too much freedom. In the same way that God pairs both, we must do the same when dealing with others.

When someone accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, He restores that “maker’s mark” lost from the fall of creation within that person and they are redeemed, never to be condemned again. We must believe in the promise that because of Christ we are made new – restored to bear the image of God because that is how He created us to be.

You do not have to live your life in a prison cell where you a caught up in sin. Jesus offers you a free life, and it is in that freedom that you find your purpose and fulfillment through Him.

Divorce is so common in the world that we live in because too often people are trying to do things on their own. The only way that a relationship will grow to build a strong marriage is if it is built on the rock, that being Jesus Christ.

After becoming a Christian, the commitment you’ve made can be tested. It is important that you remain faithful to God and where He has placed you so that you do not wander off from His will. Those who are faithful will be rewarded, if not on earth than certainly in Heaven.

It’s easy to say that God doesn’t see or know what’s going on in our lives because He may feel far off, but Scripture tells us that God does know all things and is always working even when we don’t see what He’s doing. Rather than acting like a know-it-all who doesn’t need God, try surrendering to Him who truly does know it all.

There are challenges that come up in our lives when it seems impossible for us to overcome, but with God all things are possible. We need to remember when we have come out stronger from challenges that have been presented to us so that we can face oncoming obstacles with faith in God to bring us through.

Many of us tend to have a sacred cow in our lives, something that we hold as an idol. Jesus died as the sacrificial payment for our sins, and so we must remember that when we hold on to something that is not pleasing to God we are abusing the grace that has been given to us.

We all make mistakes in our lives, but the goal is to make more right turns than wrong ones. No matter how many wrong turns we’ve taken in our lives, Jesus is always inviting us to a different path where we can begin making right turns as He leads us to do so.

The significant parts of our lives may not be the most happy times, but rather the moments when we chose to be faithful to God in the midst of trial and pain. The Bible tells story after story, highlighting people who were faithful to God and chose to obey Him no matter what and God honored that.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
