Just as there is a mess after the birth of a new baby, there is a mess in the life of a Christian after they are born again.  The Bible talks about the struggles of sin among Christians because Christians sin!  To grow in the Christian life means to confess our sins.  When we do sin, Jesus Christ is our highest-powered attorney who bails us out every time.  While there are still consequences for the mess that we make, we have life after birth and then afterlife.

It is easy, almost natural, to be owned by our stuff.  Yet Jesus says that we are to care for the poor, which sometimes means we must sell something we have in order to do that.  We do not fall into the category of “poor” when we still have stuff that we could sell.  It’s those who have sold all that they have simply to put food on the table that we are called to help.  It may not be appealing, but as Christians we should ask God what He wants us to sell so that we may help someone in need who may potentially become a brother or sister in Christ.

In the story of Belshazzar and Daniel, Belshazzar and his friends worshipped material things until God intervened and wrote with a hand on the wall in order to warn them from the life they were living.  For some reason, we think that we are in control of ourselves, of our decisions, or even to some extent the results of an election.  As Christians, we know and have the responsibility to live a godly life, and so that we must do.  Unlike any material thing, God hears, sees, and understands our problems and it is Him who calls the shots, and no matter what it is His plan that prevails.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
