One of the most difficult parts about following Christ is that the majority of the time things do not change overnight.  Even after making the decision to follow Him, the same struggles will still be a battle to face day in and day out.  The devil will use those things against you and try to bring you down, and it is easy to fall into his traps even right after experiencing “mountain top” moments of God’s saving power and grace.  Rather than allowing those struggles to rule our lives and our minds, we are told to think on such things that are true, noble and good.  When we keep ourselves focused on Christ, He gives us peace, joy, and strength to face those battles and overcome.

The Christian life is all about disciples making disciples.  Any person who becomes a Christian and is born again needs someone to come and spiritually parent them, helping them grow and mature to someday parent someone else.  Mentorship is key when it comes to being the Church, because without it all we have are a bunch of born again baby orphans with no one to look after them.  It doesn’t matter if your life is not all together or if you ever experienced someone spiritually parenting you.  If you are a believer, at some point God will call you to seek out someone new to the family of God to take under your wing and pour into their life that they may grow and mature to someday be in a position to do the same thing to someone else.

Abortion is a very sad common occurrence, killing an unborn child before they even have the chance to live.  The devil’s mission is to steal, kill, and destroy, plotting to keep us from getting out of this world alive.  The truth is, there is life after death, eternal life with God forever, but there are so many people that don’t even know about it or think they can have a chance at that life.  We are here on this earth for a time, a short time compared to the eternal glory that we will share in Heaven.  And so while we are here, we should be spreading the word and fighting against the devil’s lies to help get as many people out of this world alive.  All people have the opportunity to have life after death, no matter how big or small their sin is.  They just need that opportunity presented to them.

As Christians we are all called to be leaders.  In many circumstances there is an order to leadership, mainly being that the man needs to stand up and lead in mixed company, whether it be in marriage or a larger group.  But the only way that a person can be a truly great leader is if they are already following someone else, most importantly Jesus Christ.  Jesus commanded us that as we are going in this life we are to make disciples.  As we make disciples, we are to also teach them to do the same and it goes on and on – disciples making disciples.  This command of discipleship and leadership must be the focus of the Church, otherwise everything else gets out of focus and does not have much purpose.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
