Hindsight

July 30, 2014
Hindsight gives us the ability to look back in the past to see a situation clearly based on the outcome, while faith allows us to have hindsight in the middle of any situation because we know that it will all be okay. When we trust God and focus on Him regardless of the trial we face, He will give us wisdom and strength to get through whatever it is we are going through.

The thing about white toilets is that you can’t hide any filth in them because the white exposes what is there. Similarly, if we choose to live in the light as God calls us to, the filth and sin in our life will be exposed. The way to keep our “white toilets” clean is by living in obedience to God daily, understanding that it is a process and choosing to live in truth.

As Christians we tend to point our fingers at other people’s sins and ignore our own, however it is not until we can admit to our own sin that we fully experience God’s grace and mercy and can extend it to someone else. Jesus is the only one who lived a perfect life and can say that everyone else has sinned, and it was His death that made it possible for us all to be made clean.

Rather than appearing on earth as a man without having to go through all that we go through and working some magic, Jesus chose to enter this world through Mary’s womb as a baby, grow up and die a human death. He did this because He knew that this was the only way for us to enter a new life through Him and join Him in Heaven someday.

Once we become Christians, the devil does not give up but rather he fights harder for us to be pulled back into the sins of our past. When we start to feel that pull we need to ask God to give us the wisdom to see the way of escape and to take it. We also need to help others who have been pulled back out and are drowning to get back to the shore.

Encouragement, like dessert, is something that we can all live without but is wonderful when it happens. God can use things in our own lives to encourage us out of the blue, and when we are fulfilled by His encouragement then He can use us to help encourage others, too.

There is a difference between reading the Bible and applying what it says to our lives. We only start growing spiritually when we allow what we are reading to be applied to our lives. Once Scripture starts making a difference in us, we can begin to seek out other people to help them learn to do the same.

Once we become Christians we are only supposed to act like babies for so long until we begin to grow and mature. Too often Christians allow malice, envy and anger in their hearts that prevent them from growing. Baby Christians need to find someone to feed them pure milk, and then, letting go of certain sins in their heart, grow from there.

All the things we have are given to us by God, and sometimes He calls us to give something away to someone else. When we trust Him and obey His call, He continues to provide for all that we need.

Rather than focusing on the things we don’t like about a church, we need to step in and serve where God has called us to serve and do our part. When our focus shifts to serving and obeying God, the problems will work themselves out rather than if we sit in our discontentment and complain.

Though many people believe that the good things they do can outweigh the bad things they’ve done, the only way that a person can be reconciled to God is through Jesus Christ. He died to pay the price that we all owe because of our sin, and if we believe in Him and accept His forgiveness then we can stand before God debt free.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
