Goal Tending

February 11, 2016

Anyone can set any random goal, but there are specific desires that God Himself can place in our heart that we must continually work towards. The Bible encourages us to constantly be ready to respond and obey when God calls us to something. Working towards the plans that He has set on our lives makes us ready for His calling.

Jesus said that He is the bread from Heaven that gives life and that we must fill ourselves with Him to receive that life. If we hunger and thirst after Him and His righteousness, He promises to fill us up and satisfy us.

We live in a world where trials and tribulations come and we have a choice for how we will respond. We can let these difficulties get the best of us or we can trust God, allowing the peace that only comes from Him through His Son to dwell in us no matter the circumstances.

In Christ we have all the power and strength we need to withstand temptation and not fall into sin, however we often do not realize that we already have this. With the help of others to teach us about God’s power that is in us, we can begin to win over temptation and sin and live under God’s protection.

We all go through circumstances where we need to be comforted and God has promised to bring comfort when we bring our brokenness to Him. The way we receive comfort from God is not just to have Him around us but to have Him in us.

The Church is not a building but rather it is made up of people. When God lives in you, you are His temple and He fills you up so much so that you overflow. When you are filled with God you can’t help but to spill over His love, grace and mercy to others.

The devil works hard to lull us to sleep in a spiritual sense to where we are desensitized to things that should bother us. We need to quit lazily hitting the snooze button, wake up and let God work in us and through us. One way to start doing that is to start each day with prayer.

When we share the Gospel with unbelievers, we will encounter different reactions from those who accept it and those who reject it. There is no amount of convincing that we can do in our own power to save someone. As we pray, we must trust the Holy Spirit will work in someone’s life and heart to convict and convince them of their sin and their need for Christ.

Too often we find ourselves holding onto what we have rather than letting it go so that God can fill us with so much more. God does not just love us but He likes us, too, and we must have faith in His amazing provision. God’s greatest blessings that He has given us are grace and mercy made evident in Christ.

Creation reflects the grace and glory of God in that He did not create only what seems necessary but He made things beautiful and exceeded simple necessity. This is also shown in how He takes care of us in that He does not only give us things to meet our immediate needs but he graciously blesses us on top of that, like putting a cherry on top of a Sunday.

Even if everyone in our lives has left us, if we have God in us then we will never be alone because He has promised to never leave us. Rather than looking for someone else to fix us, we need to work on our relationship with Jesus and other relationships will balance and work out, and even if they don’t we have a God with us who understands loneliness.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
