Freedom

July 3, 2012
Even after accepting salvation, we often remain in our cell of bondage.  That bondage could be to a number of things such as sin, religion, guilt, etc.  Until we come to a full realization of God’s love for us and His gift of freedom to us even in this world, we will remain in our cell.  However, living in freedom does not mean that we should do whatever we want.  God’s grace still covers us, but there are consequences.  Rather than falling on either side of the spectrum, God teaches us to live in freedom, but in the kind of freedom that is beneficial.

We all desire independence because the idea of needing someone or something else causes us to feel vulnerable.  The truth is that we all need God whether we choose to admit that or not.  When we finally do admit our need for Him, we learn to trust Him and He becomes our rock, our strength, and our stronghold.  It is not until He is all those things to us personally that we began to live in freedom because there is not one enemy of ours that God cannot stand against.  Knowing that we are secure in Him brings us peace beyond understanding in the midst of all adversity.

We commonly grow up thinking that if we compliment someone too much that they will get a big head about themselves.  We are taught to look down on someone like this so instead we live in this “I’m-nothing” kind of attitude.  There is a difference between humble confidence and fake humility, and confidence is rightly available to us in Christ.  Without Him we really are nothing, but with Him we are able to use the great talents God has given us individually to expand His Kingdom.  There is nothing wrong with seeing ourselves how God sees us, and once we realize He loves us and we grow to love Him, we can then love others just as we love ourselves

Most of us know exactly what we struggle with, the things that take us out from our steady growth in relationship with God.  The devil’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy, so his intention is to use those things to sabotage our lives.  God has made us for a purpose, but when we give in to the things that sabotage us, we get off course and often create a lot of unnecessary damage.  The worst form of sabotage is suicide because there is no coming back from that here on earth and it ends a life that God may have had many more redeeming plans for.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
