In the Bible, David expressed to his son, Solomon, the necessity of seeking after wisdom.  In turn, Solomon followed the instructions of his father and also proclaimed the same instruction to his children.  Being smart is very different than being wise, and as children of God we are instructed to grow in wisdom in order so that we may make wise choices.  The more that we seek after wisdom the more we develop the Pop Eye, seeing things through God’s eyes.  Wisdom involves knowing what the right thing is to do and acting on that, making good choices to avoid future downfall or mistakes.

Out of the Question

There are three kinds of being stuffed, and all of them are sinful.  The first way is losing self-control and stuffing ourselves with things we can’t say no to, such as food.  The second way is to be stuffed with stuff, material possessions that we cling to in this life because we cannot take any of it with us and it would be better to use those things for good on earth than to keep it all to ourselves.  The final sinful way to be stuffed uses the analogy of animals that are dead and stuffed to look real.  Christians can be stuffed by doing all the right things, looking like a real Christ follower on the outside, and yet they are dead inside.  The only true freedom we can find from being stuffed is in Christ and the price that He paid when He gave His life so that we may have eternal life with Him forever.

A crucial part of the Christian life is growth.  In order to grow in our relationship with God, we much be weaned off from the habits or hiccups in our lives that deter us from following Him.  Just as a child must be weaned from its mother’s breast milk in order to eat real food, God slowly weans us from certain things in our lives so that He can replace those things with what is better and more pleasing to Him.  While it is okay for a time to feed on spiritual “milk”, at some point we have to grow up and start reading the Bible, praying and studying on our own so that we can in turn help others grow.

When something reveals what is about to happen, or shows an obvious sign of what’s to come, that is called a tell tale.  As Christians, we ought to be waiting on the Spirit to blow some wind in our sails, and allow Him to guide us to where He wants us to go.  Then, when we’re there, we need to listen and watch for what He is doing so that we can respond in an appropriate manner.  The Holy Spirit desires to use us to do extraordinary things, but we can’t do those things without Him and so we must wait, listen, watch and respond.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
