Fit For Battle

January 21, 2016

God will sometimes orchestrate the battles we face in our lives in such a way that we cannot win without His help. It is in these battles that He gets the glory. The Bible tells us that we are to march on the gates of hell to pull people out but we cannot do that without Him.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. The Bible teaches that if we walk in the light as He leads us to then we will have fellowship with other believers and He will cleanse us from our sins.

We are all in a spiritual battle, but the question is if we are fighting in it or if we are prisoners of war. We must trust God in all things and obey whatever He tells us to do. We cannot escape this battle and so the Bible tells us the armor we must wear in order to fight.

God chose us before the foundation of the world, but the sacrifice He made to have us was the death of His Son. God loves us enough to have paid that price, but we still must choose to follow Him. When we enlist in God’s army, He allows for circumstances in our lives to strengthen us and to cause us to rely on Him.

We need to make the decision to commit ourselves to a certain church and group of people, as well as commit to fight for things that God calls us to fight about. Jesus calls us to follow Him, and that means that we take up our cross, die to ourselves and follow Him for life.

It is not only her own body that a woman is choosing for when she makes a decision to end a life inside of her, but it is also that body of a baby. As Christians, our bodies no longer belong to us anyway, and we are instructed to yield our bodies to God as living sacrifices.

God is the ultimate source of comfort for all our pains and struggles. He comforts us in various ways so that we can turn around and comfort others. It is important that we comfort others because if we are not there now, we will someday be at a place in life where we need others to help comfort us.

It is easy for us to remain lukewarm, using only our words to show that we believe in Christ. The Bible tells us that we must choose to follow Him with our whole heart, allowing Him to lead us in every way. Although straddling the fence feels like indecision to you, it is a decision to God because anything less than serving Him is serving the devil.

Instead of living a carefree lifestyle that blows caution to the wind and takes part in all sorts of sin, we need to submit our lives to God let Him live in us and through us. When we follow in step with obedience to the things He calls us to do in every detail of our lives, we will get to watch Him do extraordinary things in and around us.

God desires a close relationship with each of us, yet there must always remain an awe and respect for Him. If we do not respect God and obey what He calls us to do, we risk our heart becoming hardened and God taking us out because we are no good to Him with a hard heart. We must hear God’s voice in our lives and be receptive to respectfully obey His call.

The Bible tells us that no matter how clean we make ourselves, we are filthy with sin unless we are washed in the blood of Christ. Jesus came to earth in a body because there had to be a blood sacrifice in order to wash away the sins of the world. We must respond to Him and allow Him to cover us with His blood so that we may approach God.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
