Dot To Dot

October 28, 2011

When looking at Scripture, it can be as confusing as looking at a sheet of paper with a whole bunch of random dots on it.  We need someone to connect the dots for us so that we can then connect them for others.  The Bible is filled with truths about God, creation, sin, Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection, and instructions for life.  While it’s good to go to church and hear a sermon that helps connect some dots, it is essential for the follower of Christ to read the Bible themselves and learn to connect the dots that they read and study.  Once we are able to connect dots ourselves, Jesus tells us to disciple others (connect the dots for them) and teach them to do the same.

Just as in marriage, you should commit yourself to one person and stick with that commitment no matter how hard it gets, the same goes for church.  It is crucial in the Christian life to find a church, commit to it as God leads, and stick with it even if it gets hard or you may get offended.  Too often people back out of their commitments, or they just choose to not commit at all.  God created us to not live alone, and in order to live in the way He created us to it means that we must have whole-hearted devotion to a church family, building relationships and fellowshipping together.  In the same way that it is important to hear God’s leading when choosing a spouse, it is also important to hear Him when choosing a church.

God has placed every person in the specific job where they are at for a reason.  That reason is so that they can touch the lives of people around them by sharing with them the Gospel.  The only way to truly share the Gospel is to live it out in your own life.  If you’re not acting any different than anyone else, no one will see any reason to change.  Even if you think no one is watching, if you proclaim to be a Christian, people will always be watching you and it is your responsibility as a follower of Christ to lead them to Him.  Try thinking of one person at your work to seek out and share the Gospel with them, even if it simply starts by a conversation showing that you care about what is going on in their life.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
