A motley crew is a group of people who are very different from one another. We need to realize that the Kingdom of God is a motley crew, and knowing this should help us reach out to others around us no matter how different they seem. We may all be different from one another but we, as believers, all have one purpose and that is to fulfill the work of God.

When you become a Christian, you join a family that together carries out the work of God in the world. You must learn to love believers and nonbelievers alike, and that can only be done with God’s help. Being a part of the Church is not all about what you get out of it but also what you have to offer to it.

Just like the Flinstones would get in their car and use their man power to make it go anywhere, we are too often living our spiritual life in our own power. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of us as believers and we must tap into that power, allowing Him to live through us.

No matter what your circumstances look like, it is possible to be content because God has provided all that you need. When you focus on God and His Kingdom, your material possessions are merely used for Him and therefore no matter much or how little you have, it does not determine your choice to be content.

The devil and his demons are consistently working to destroy us. The only way that we can stand firm against the devil is to pray like Hell for ourselves and for others. We must always remember that God empowers us to fight in this spiritual battle when we pray fervently because sometimes it’s prayer that can make all the difference.

Just as onions are made up of many layers, each individual person has layers themselves. In the Church, it is essential that we put aside our differences and look past all the “onion rings” of each person and love them because God loves them.

Joseph in the New Testament was an average guy who decided to obey God and became Jesus’ step-father. When you become a Christian you are no longer an “average Joe” and only human. The moment you become a believer God lives in you through His Holy Spirit and directs you to do His work. When you are obedient to Him He can use you to do amazing things.

When you realize how much you’ve sinned, you can then realize how great God’s forgiveness is that He extends to you. Because of Christ’s death on the cross that paid the price for all of your sin, you have the opportunity to accept the pardon that is offered to you.

When you blend families you have all the odds against you for everything to go smoothly. Make sure that you are depending on God and allowing His work and leading to take place in the relationships that are built.

When you make the decision to follow Jesus you are called to love others in such a way that is noticeably due to God’s work in your life. When those outside the Church look at Christians they need to see God working in us and through us by the way we love one another.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
