When we become Christians, Jesus’ righteousness is placed on us and our sins are all forgiven, giving us the opportunity to approach God with boldness. However, simply because our sins are all forgiven doesn’t mean we should go out and sin all the more. God still disciplines those He loves, and we should fill our lives with Scripture to fight temptation.

When we live without bearing fruit, God may choose to allow crap come into our lives in order to fertilize us so that we can be useful to Him and bear fruit. He does not want us to be a vegetable and do nothing for Him, never changing or growing. When we abide in Him, we grow and change and our relationship with Him bears fruit in our lives that others can see.

Often times it’s like opening a can of worms when we talk about pain and suffering we’ve gone through. Rather than keep these things hidden away, Jesus wants to use those worms to go fishing for other hurting people. When we allow God to use our pain to reach others, His purpose gets fulfilled in our lives.

It’s easy to get busy and distracted by doing a bunch of good things, but none of it can take away from the importance of being still and sitting with Jesus. Our relationship with Him is grown when we spend time with Him and it is out of that relationship that we should serve, not the other way around.

God has us on this earth so that we can share the Gospel with others and reach those that are lost, helping to bring them from spiritual death to life. We must be following Jesus closely so that He is making a difference in and through us in order to get people hooked and wanting what we have to offer.

Just as God chose David to become a king despite his appearance and what others might think, He wants to use us to do His work. It is not about whether or not we feel capable to do something, it is about being available for Him to equip us to do anything.

Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for our sins when He died on the cross, but it was when He was raised from the dead that He overcame death and now offers us eternal life. All we have to do is accept His forgiveness and hand our lives to Him in order to receive this great gift that He offers.

When Jesus died on the cross He took all of our sin, past, present and future, and nailed it to the cross with Himself. We are offered complete forgiveness for all our sin and guilt, and in order to live in this freedom we must accept what is offered and move forward, leaving our sin nailed to the cross.

When we experience God’s forgiveness at great lengths, we find ourselves loving others all the more. The Bible encourages us to greet each other with a holy kiss, showing intimacy in a way that lets go of hatred, animosity, insecurities and indifference.

All the prophesies came true about Jesus suffering and dying on the cross as a sacrifice to pay for our sin so that we could be reborn into God’s family. We, as believers, now make up the Body of Christ to show the world the hope that we find in Him.

Just as a little debris can keep water from coming out of a showerhead, a little bit of sin in our lives can keep God’s living water from flowing out of us to those around us. We need to examine our lives and let go of our sin so that God can work in us and through us to reach others.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
