Flesh & Blood

We all have situations in our life that has caused us deep grief.  Isaiah wrote about bringing a message of hope to the poor, of healing to the brokenhearted and of joy to those who are mourning.  When Jesus was here on earth He stood up at one point and spoke the same words of Isaiah, proclaiming that He is the man to fulfill these words.  Our lives may be scattered with ashes but He is the one who promises to bring beauty from them if we would just let Him.

Fight or Flight

When terrorists attacked on 9/11 they left a pile of rubble called Ground Zero where two towers once stood.  It was in that moment that rather than giving up and surrendering as they had hoped we would, Americans stood together and became stronger.  God hates evil and promises to hold vengeance in His hands, yet He also uses times in our lives when we feel destroyed to turn us around to follow Him.  Paul is a perfect example of someone who was known as the greatest of sinners and yet God used a “Ground Zero” moment in his life to bring him to repentance.  We will all come to an end in this life whether by death or by Jesus returning, but the question we have to face is where we’ll be after this life.  The only way to hold assurance to the hope that is offered through Christ is to surrender to Him, acknowledge our sin, and repent.

Love Letters

It is too easy, and sadly too common, to make fun of what other people believe. The truth is that what we believe as Christians is just as crazy to them when they hear the Gospel story. Rather than make fun of someone else’s beliefs or idols, we need to be open to hearing about their beliefs so that at some point they will be open to hearing about ours. While Jesus showed us an example of truthfulness, He was also very graceful in speaking the truth to others. When we love people despite their beliefs and idols they choose to worship, eventually they will see a difference in us and realize that what we have works a whole lot better than what they have been trying to get to work their whole life

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
