Babe Ruth

October 2, 2016

The story of Ruth in the Bible shows a great example of what it means to trust God and obey. Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi and obedience to what she said led Ruth to marry Boaz, and later in their family line was Joseph, the father of Jesus who saved the world.

Cheating in any relationship is always accompanied by guilt and shame that makes the cheating not ever worth it. Cheating is not always done through a physical act, but it starts in the heart. When we say that we love God, we must make sure that our hearts are completely loyal to Him and not straying.

There is nothing that we’ve done to earn on invitation from God for us to be with Him forever, yet because Jesus covers us in His righteousness we are invited to come. We must respond to His invitation by allowing Him to come into our hearts and change us from the inside out.

The story of Ruth shows us how God is orchestrating a bigger picture than what we can even see, and we need to be faithful to what and to whom He has called us. Trusting that He knows what He’s doing, we need to desperately follow Him where He leads us.

When we respond to God’s calling in our hearts, we become His. Once we know whose we are, we can then learn about who He has created us to be and live out our calling.

God always answers our prayers, but sometimes His answer is that we need to wait. When we cannot see what He has in store, we need to trust Him and obey, waiting on Him to come through to meet our needs.

We read in the New Testament how the religious people tried to shut down the movement of the Gospel but failed in every attempt, resulting in the strengthening of other believers. There is something to be said about the work that God has done and continues to do in the lives that are changed by the Gospel every day.

People will often believe history books without any problem but be very doubtful towards the truth of the Bible. At some point we have to put our faith in the truth of Scripture, believing that Jesus died, was buried and rose again. When He was crucified on the cross, our sin was nailed there with Him and we can choose to walk forward in new life, cutting ourselves free from the slavery of sin.

History proves over and over that there are consequences for disobedience to God. We must make the decision to do the right thing, and when we fall down to get back up and keep moving. Our choice of obedience will pay off in the end.

There are situations that we get in when God is asking us to obey Him in something and our neck stiffens because we do not want to obey. In those situations we need to allow ourselves to be softened and adhere to what He’s calling us to do because He has a purpose, and it could be for the benefit of others that we’ll never know.

When we become Christians, we join a family that together carries out the work of God in the world. We must learn to love believers and nonbelievers alike, and that can only be done with God’s help. Being a part of the Church is not all about what we get out of it but also what we have to offer to it.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
