A Dozen Roses

God commands that we are to love others as we love ourselves. We cannot love ourselves truly until we love God, and when we love God we obey His commands and serve others. As part of the family of God, we need other brothers and sisters to love us as well.

There’s a story in the Bible about a man who was born blind and Jesus healed Him. God used this man’s difficult circumstances to be glorified in the end by revealing Himself through healing. God can use the difficulties in our own lives for His purpose, and we must take a stand to proclaim His goodness in all things.

We are all faced with decisions to make in our lives, but no matter the decision we must seek God’s guidance and counsel first. When we ignore God and make a hasty decision, we often find ourselves in a lot of trouble that could’ve been avoided. Praying and waiting on God can save you from a lot of trouble and the rewards will always be worth the wait.

Positive thinking that we can do something is not the solution to enable us to do all things. When we trust in God He enables us to do everything that He has called us to do. Therefore we need not be fearful of what He calls us to do because it is in Christ that we are able to do all things for Him.

Some people hear the Word and don’t accept any of it. Some hear the Word and get excited at first but eventually the excitement fades and nothing changes. Others can hear the Word but are distracted by other things in life. Yet there are some who hear the Word and it resonates in them, causing them to grow and produce spiritual fruit in their life. Everyone falls into one of these categories and you can tell which one you’re in by observing if your life is producing fruit.

Too often we stand in our own ways and do not obey God in what He is calling us to do. God is looking for us to surrender to His will so that we may live in obedience to Him. We must surrender first and say “uncle” before we can call Him “Father.” Once we submit to God He gives us the power we need to wrestle with the temptations of this world.

Since Jesus is already the King and Lord of all, we need to stop trying to take over His throne and submit to His reign. When He is running our lives the way He wants and we are obeying Him, it may not all work out the way we want it to but there is heavenly reward and our purpose of glorifying Him is fulfilled.

Mothers can cause a lot of problems in a marriage when they won’t let their son or daughter go. The Bible says that a man needs to leave his family to be joined to his wife. Men and women can honor their parents without obeying them once they are grown adults.

The Bible tells us that God picked us to be in relationship with and follow Him, just like Jesus picked His disciples while here on earth. Rather than seeing all the reasons why we should not be chosen, we need to accept God’s love for us and live in obedience to Him.

Jesus knew in the beginning that Judas would betray Him and yet He still let him close and served him. The devil knew that he could not get into Jesus so he got as close as he could but even through that Jesus gave us an example of loving our enemies. Regardless of the circumstances and whom we are called to serve, we need to obey God at all cost because we will have to answer to Him one day.

We all tend to point our fingers at other people and judge their sin when we hide a sin that no one likes to talk about because it makes us uncomfortable. Gluttony is talked about specifically in the Bible as a sin, but we do not think of this when we sit down at a table full of food. We need to stop judging others and go to someone we trust in our life to help us clean out our cupboards from the temptation of pigging out.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
