Church Growth 101, 1C

October 23, 2014

Now of course, first Samuel is an Old Testament book, but it reveals, more and more, the work of the Holy Spirit, which many think is a New Testament teaching only!  But as we’ll see, this is simply not the case!

References: 1 Samuel 16:13

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

Chapter sixteen is where David (eventually King David) is brought in to the narrative. Because King Saul disobeyed the Lord’s instructions, he quickly fell out of God’s favor. So the Almighty sent Samuel to find a man that would be “one after God’s own heart.”

Have you ever heard the saying, “Obedience is better than sacrifice?” Well, chapter fifteen of first Samuel is one of the places in Scripture that declares this, as we’ll see. The God of Israel sent specific instructions to King Saul. But he was, you might say, only partially obedient.
