About Jesus Christ

  • Where do you turn when you're in distress? Where do you run when you're troubled? To whom do you turn?
  • Do you ever get frustrated with people? Maybe they're unloving, rude, unkind, inconsiderate, or distant.
  • Oh Beloved, suppose, just suppose, that you knew the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ was near. Suppose that you had inside information that your time “to occupy until He comes” was about over.
  • If you’re in a difficult trial today my friend, if you’re confronted by an enemy or if you’re being seduced by your mind, by your desires, there’s a key question you need to ask before you head down a path to look for answers other than down the straight and narrow path of God’s Word.
  • God never changes. That’s as comforting as it is sobering.
  • I’ll never forget his face — the gravity of words haltingly spoken from one so young. He was just a child, yet shouldering the blame of being unaccepted, unwanted, rejected by both his birth parents and numerous foster parents who kept sending him back.
  • Beloved, family was on God’s heart from the beginning. When He sent His son to earth, he intentionally put Him in a family. Although He was the Son of God, God saw to it that His Son was raised with a mother, father, and siblings in an ordinary family.
  • Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant...

Christmas

  • What's the first word that comes to your mind when you think about Christmas?
  • Christmas — the most anticipated, celebrated, advertised holiday of the year. To some, it’s a secular holiday, focused on giving and receiving, long in coming and short in true celebration, leaving little in its wake but exhaustion, debt, and disappointment.

Fear & Peace

  • Where do you turn when you're in distress? Where do you run when you're troubled? To whom do you turn?
  • Stress is everywhere! And it shows. It shows in our bodies — in our relationships — including our relationship with God.
  • It is the single most important event in history since the creation of the world, and your perspective of it determines how you face each day, each trial, each incident of life.
  • During these challenging days do you wonder what your future holds? Do you wish for a little more joy? A little more hope for a brighter tomorrow? Or better still, do you wish for the quiet and sure confidence of a future that is not the fruit of your todays or yesterdays?
  • If you are having financial troubles, setbacks...it's not the end. If you have been lied to and deceived...it's not the end. If you have lost your job...it's not the end. If you have lost your home...it's not the end.
  • If you are dealing with failure, know this — you are not alone.
  • Has hope become a stranger in your life? Do you look about you...within you...and hurt?
  • Are you in a battle? A conflict? A hard place? It's something or someone threatening your peace, your security?
  • If you've ever had to deal with fear, you know that just a word, a thought, a noise, an unexpected call or visit can strike panic in your heart.
  • In the midst of a heartbreaking trial, God clearly gave me the verse from Psalm 46: "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).
  • Life can be traumatic — or if not traumatic, disillusioning or disappointing — can't it?
  • When you look at the disintegration of marriages, homes, families, relationships, morals, and society in general, do you wonder what is happening? Do you wonder why godly life principles, a sense of honor and moral restraint, graciousness, and propriety are slipping away?
  • Are you in a battle? A conflict? A hard place? Is something or someone threatening your peace, your security?
  • Have you ever had to deal with failure? That’s a silly question, isn’t it! I’m sure you have. I have.

Fourth of July

  • “...I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”
    1 Timothy 2:1,2

  • “...I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”

International Day of Prayer

  • What direction is our nation going to take?
  • Have you ever felt absolutely impotent — bound with your hands behind your back, tied up, gagged, unable to move or to speak?
  • I was amazed. It was our first event in Germany. Two hundred adults came for two days of inductive study from various cities in Germany and several other countries. Among them was a group of ten teens eager to see what the Book of Daniel taught about the future. They had driven six hours to get there! I couldn’t wait to find out the why and how of it all.
  • “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” Bob Dylan’s hit song from 1964, was right — they were changing!
  • Beloved, I love to cling to promises from God’s Word.

Prayer & Spiritual Life

  • Do you long for affirmation? Here's the affirmation that will change your life forever.
  • What direction is our nation going to take?
  • Have you ever felt absolutely impotent — bound with your hands behind your back, tied up, gagged, unable to move or to speak?
  • It is the single most important event in history since the creation of the world, and your perspective of it determines how you face each day, each trial, each incident of life.
  • What do you need? What do you long for? What are you looking for that you cannot find? What void is there that is not being filled?
  • How can we get close to God — close enough to hear His voice, know His power and presence, “feel His pleasure,” as Eric Liddell put it in the movie, Chariots of Fire?
  • Beloved, in our last devotional together, we discussed the purpose of fasting, how it is a spiritual discipline with the intent of drawing us closer to God.
  • In our last devotional, I encouraged you to heed the Spirit’s prompting and to pray about whatever “it” is He has been burdening your heart. Have you started to pray?
  • “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” Bob Dylan’s hit song from 1964, was right — they were changing!
  • Beloved, I love to cling to promises from God’s Word.
  • In light of the fact that it is February—the month in which we celebrate Valentine’s Day—may I ask you a very personal question? “How’s your love life?”
