Avoiding Self-Righteousness
Avoiding Self-Righteousness
John MacArthur: This is John MacArthur with more Portraits of Grace. In Luke 18, Jesus tells the parable of two men who went into the temple to pray. One was a self-righteous, proud man who said, in effect, "God, I'm so holy. You're really fortunate to have me as one of your children."
The other man, however, acknowledged his sin and begged for God's mercy. And that man received forgiveness, and the other didn't. As a Christian, you have the wonderful privilege of entering into God's presence through prayer.
That privilege is rooted in God's grace through Christ's sacrifice and leaves no room for self-righteousness or presumption. So, always guard your heart in prayer that you don't slip into the attitude of self-righteousness. This is John MacArthur, praying you're continuing to be portraits of grace.
