God, Yes, But Why Jesus? Part 1

As the central figure in all of human history, Jesus Christ stands alone as the mediator between God and man. No one has ever commanded people’s allegiance, and hatred, as has the Jesus who lived 2,000 years ago. While some say it is OK to believe in God, they recoil at believing in Jesus. Today we will join Pastor Lutzer in an honest look at the claims Jesus made, and the choice all of us must make regarding the Son of God.

While there is a guarantee that God will forgive us for great sins against others, there is no guarantee that those we have wronged will forgive us. The damage may be too deep for healing to ever take place or, those we have wronged may no longer be alive. How do we handle the pain of torn relationships, torn because of our bad choices?

When we commit great sins, God through Christ offers us great forgiveness. But sin’s consequences remain, especially when they involve other people who have been affected by what we have done. Today we hear guidance on restoring relationships damaged by our wrong choices.

There is a great danger in thinking that we have conquered sin. It can resurface when we least expect it. Past victories do not guarantee future ones. A daily walk with God is crucial to avoid walking in the paths of familiar sins. But if we fail, there is a way back.

If our consciences are in good working order, we feel great guilt when we sin against God or against others. In order for us to be rid of that guilt, we need to know what happens to those sins we commit. Happily, the Bible has an answer that can free us from the great burden of guilt.

Some people have seared their consciences so badly that they feel no remorse when they sin, or when they hurt others. But most of us still know that sin is wrong, and we feel guilt when we commit sins against God and others. And when our offenses are great, that sense of guilt can be overwhelming.

What do you do after making a huge mistake in life, a mistake that brings harm to yourself and others? Some people run and hide. Others harden their hearts in rebellion. But some find their way to forgiveness and restoration.

In a relay race, each runner must pass a baton to the next runner to avoid disqualification. In a culture, each generation must, as it were, pass the baton to the next to preserve that culture’s values. In America, we are now at great risk of failing to pass the baton, and of losing the values on which this country was founded. The generation now emerging may well be the generation that forgot God.
