Redeemed for an Abundant Life

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” - 1 Peter 1:18-19

Emancipation. What picture does that word bring to mind? Many think about slaves. But did you know that the cross of Jesus Christ has emancipated every believer?

In 1 Peter 1:18, the word “redeemed” is the same word used to emancipate a slave. Jesus Christ has redeemed you and set you free from your “vain conversation.” That means “empty living”—drawing your breath, drawing your salary—not getting serious about this thing called the Christian life.

Oh friend, it’s time for you to take hold of the exciting life to which God has called you, and the abundant life for which Jesus died to give you. It is a thrill to serve the One who has redeemed us with the silver of His tears and the gold of His blood.
